General overview

Dr. Brogden has over 45 years of experience in microbiology and immunology, with internationally recognized expertise in mechanisms of innate immunity, inflammation, and microbial pathogenesis for the study of host interactions with bacteria in periodontal diseases. His research has received support from the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Agriculture. His research interests include oral infection and inflammation, particularly the role of chemokines and cytokines in saliva and the underlying signaling mechanisms. He explores the use of ultraviolet irradiation to activate innate and adaptive immune mechanisms in endodontic root canals, either directly or through UV-induced biomarkers, aiming to supplement endodontic procedures to reduce infection, inflammation, and pain while aiding in healing.
