Our facilities

Vertex laboratory

Vertex Discoveries has a well-equipped laboratory capable of assessing unique approaches of UVC LED to treat oral infection and inflammation.

Laboratory space

We use both conventional equipment and novel prototypes to assess the ability of UVC and power levels to kill microorganisms and improve procedures for treating infections and inflammation in root canals.

Laboratory equipment

Our equipment and facilities provide a safe environment while working with etiologic agents; human tissues, host cells, and saliva; and ultraviolet light irradiation of different wave-lengths and powers.

Microbiology

We currently utilize a variety of microorganisms reported to be involved in human oral infections and endodontic infections.

Prototype testing

We use a PM100D energy meter (Thorlabs, Inc., Newton, NJ) with a S120VC photodiode sensor (200-1100 nm, 50 mW, Thorlabs) to determine power and energy levels from UV LED prototypes with fiberoptic tips.

Antimicrobial assays

We use qualitative and quantitative assays to demonstrate the ability of our prototype designs to rapidly kill microorganisms associated with oral and endodontic infections.

Biomarker mediators

Our prototype designs induce the production of chemokines, cytokines, and biomarker mediators from cultured human oral cells capable of reducing inflammation and increasing endodontic tissue regeneration.
